Fashion Trends 2021
I know thinking about fashion during Covid can be complicated. I spent most of 2020 in leggings, loungewear, and athleisure wear. But on days when I decided to get "dressed" like I used to - before Covid, I noticed that I had more energy; there was definitely an extra bounce in my step.
The truth is we have to get dressed every day, and it's ok to enjoy it, to shop for clothes even during a pandemic. My style before Covid does not fit my life now, and I'm sure that's true for many of you. So, I'm thinking ahead about the kind of life of style I want to have in 2021.
One thing I know for sure is that I want it to be intentional. This post is focused more on 2021 fashion trends, but where I shop and how I shop will shift from how I did it pre-covid; in truth, it already has.
Here are the predicted trends for 2021.
You may notice that we've seen these trends before. It's actually comforting; that way, we can shop our closets and still be in step with 2021.
Neutrals
This may be my favorite, it just the basics elevated. I haven’t worn jeans in months at least 6 months, maybe longer. The neutrals also help you look a little more put together in the most minimal way. A mix of tonal colors such as denim, beige, cream and brown can all be worn together. This is a stretch for me, really. I’ve always been a pop of color, but maybe I’ll just let my red lipstick take care of that part of the look.
Ruffled & Tiers
I’m most excited about this one. I’ve always loved dresses and in just the last two years I started venturing into the tiers realm. As a petite lady I try to stay away from a lot of material, but the high low works for my body type. It also makes me feel like I’m about to be in a AD house tour.
Fun with Prints
It’s the mix and match style for me. I love prints, especially leopard print and plaid, but I really feel like 2021 could be the year where I throw caution to the wind and wear all of my prints at once. It’s a fresh, eclectic look that can help me become that cool girl that makes style looks effortless. Where in reality I just tried on everything in my closet until it kinda made sense.
Little House on the Prairie
This may be just a little too out there for me. I always felt like this look worked better for ladies who were over 5’5 and over, Prairie style dresses come with a lot of material and that can complicate a petite body. But I have been dreaming of living on a farm where I can run through a field. I’ve been feeling claustrophobic - its a pandemic symptom. Maybe a nice prairie dress can help me channel my field of dreams.
You may notice that loungewear and athleisure wear are not on this list. But we all know those trends are not going anywhere. And that’s ok - many of us will need to have comfort wear to help us through these pandemic times. But don’t forget to have fun with these trends on the days you feel like getting “dressed.”
